ADHD from 2 POVs

I started Kayleigh’s Clutter to connect with fellow ADHDers. Well, I have recently joined a discord server and have met some awesome people with ADHD.

This blog is going to take a look at my symptoms compared to another ADHD woman that I met over there. I’d like to thank her for sharing her story with me and with you all!

ADHD symptoms are categorised into hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattentiveness. We both struggle with all of these but our symptoms present slightly differently.

We both struggle with the amount of thoughts in our heads at one time. For me, this means I always have a lot of tabs open, get easily distracted and will flit from task to task. For her, she struggles to speak on a topic if she hasn’t already researched it because she can’t organise her thoughts.

I was also glad to learn that I’m not the only one that cries really easily. The second I get overwhelmed or can’t understand the billions of things that are going on in my head, I cry. She cries out of frustration and anger and can’t communicate their feelings.

However, we are both all too familiar with being told ‘you’re overreacting’ or ‘you’re too sensitive’. We have a chemical imbalance in our brain for goodness sake; we can’t help it! And even if you don’t know we have ADHD, be kind anyway and hear everyone’s feelings.

I asked whether she had any tricks for new ADHDers, and her best advice was ‘remember that you CAN ask for help and to tell people that I’m struggling’. This seems so simple but we forget to do it.

I just want to recognise how much we understood each other’s struggles even though we were different. I felt like I wasn’t alone or insane and hopefully, you’ll feel the same! I’m really grateful to have (virtually) met her and I have learned a lot from her too.

We chatted for quite a while and so there is plenty more we can learn from this awesome ADHDer. Drop a comment if you’d like some more!

Until next time,

Kayleigh
